Cartography – mapping of materials and damages: Our analysis of condition is usually aided by mapping at various levels of detail. We record damage and weathering in their context, considering also materials, structures and exposure conditions (“weathering situations”), rather than focusing on single phenomena. We use a variety of tools, including Geographical Information Systems (GIS), for making maps. Such maps are particularly useful in understanding and presenting causes of damages.

Example: cartography of the deterioration phenomena at the Rundturm of the government building in St. Gallen
